We ought to pursue no less beloved. We have the ability to act righteously. We must fight our flesh and the forces from this world and even the church to do so. The God who sees in secret will reward justly. We do our acts of righteousness not for acclaim but because it is the right things to do. I know this can be a hard lesson. God is constantly reminding me. We all want 100 "likes" on a Facebook post and a hearty - amen! We just have to be careful that does not become the reason we do what is right. Public righteousness is just self righteousness and self righteousness is just false righteousness, not so cleverly disguised.
