"They have turned some people away from the faith" - NLT
"Overthrow the faith of some" - KJV
Make no mistake about it beloved. It is really bad. What these two did was lead people away from Christ. They led them away from the faith. They destroyed the faith of some. Realize that when Perry Noble gave his absurdly heretical sermon on Christmas Eve, eviscerating the Ten Commandments, that over 30,000 people at his church alone heard it. Who knows how many now believe such nonsense? How many of the hundreds of thousands of Joseph Prince followers actually think to repent is merely to "consent to be loved?" Do you understand the predicament that causes? How many people will be falsely converted? You cannot be saved without repenting and consenting to be loved is simply not the definition of repentance. What about the lady disbelieving the Lazarus story? It may seem harmless but it is anything but. She was viewed as being sound by many simply for being a moderator. Who knows how many people will believe her new false understanding. And what is the big deal there? Think about it for a second. Why does the devil spend so much time trying to disprove any biblical account of anything? Why is the world focused on claiming that creation was not literal? That the plagues of Egypt can be scientifically explained? Why? Because once you can dismiss one story the whole book is useless. Once the Word is fallible, so is God. Once you lose faith in the Bible, you have lost your faith in Christ. He is His Word.
Beloved we need shepherds who can rightly divide the Word of Truth. We need sound doctrine. The Bible teaches us that it is false doctrine that is actually what causes division in the church. This is not about one person being better than the other because Jesus always taught servanthood and humility. It is about protecting the flock. It is about advancing the kingdom of God. I see people every day trying to divide the Word fall so horribly short and I wonder why? Why would you subject yourself to a higher standard of judgment from God if you truly have not been called? It comes down to a lack of reverent fear. When I say that I inevitably have someone ask me if I am afraid of God and my answer is always that I am afraid of forgetting who He is. Like Hymenaeus and Philetus forgot. Like Perry Noble and the false teacher parade have forgotten. Like the lady on Facebook who believes God is omnipotent but is somehow constrained by the very laws of nature He created has forgotten. Don't you forget beloved. Don't you forget.
