The Holy Spirit wills the gifts, not Bill Johnson. The result is that everyone who goes to Bethel, follows Johnson, or follows their heretical worship outfit, Jesus Culture, is being taught that they can control the gifts. They all lay hands on everyone else without regard for who the person is or what they might be into. No respect whatsoever for the cosmic powers that preside over this present darkness. None whatsoever. The second key verse wraps up by reiterating the deadly nature of what we are dealing with. These are forces of evil in heavenly places. It is a big deal when someone underestimates his adversary. Especially when life and death are on the line.
So do we cower in fear as believers? Of course not because greater is He that is in me than he that is in the world. The Bible says however that we are not to be ignorant of the schemes of the enemy. The church today is infiltrated by people who dabble in some of the most perverse heresies and worldly principles ever concocted. For a decade Charismaniacs rolled around on the ground and barked like a dog, while blaming it on the Holy Spirit. Then they gathered at Brownsville and claimed that the Holy Spirit made them jerk spasmodically and uncontrollably. The evil Kundalini spirit infiltrating the church. Prophecy has been reduced to witchcraft within the body of Christ. New Age and Far East mysticism infiltrating the church through contemplative prayer. These are all spiritual in nature beloved! These are cosmic powers that preside over this present darkness and are bringing it into the church by men who either do not know any better or are deceivers themselves. Lovers of money. Brutes whose god is their own bellies. Leading the sheep of God to slaughter and profiting off of their blood.
It need not be. Those who know better need to stand in the gap for what is of God and say no to what is not. The gifts were given by God for His church so they must be important. It is time to get back to real prophecy - which will always point you to Christ and not ourselves. We need the true gift of healing, not this con artist nonsense perpetrated by the Benny Hinns of the world. The church needs miracles beloved! God is still a miracle working God but only by His Word! We must make sure that we measure everything up to His Word. We desperately need the ability to distinguish between spirits. So that we can turn away from the show and the spotlight of wannabe prophets and apostles and turn back to the living God and His living Word. We need the utterances of wisdom, knowledge and tongues for the purposes God has laid out in His Word. We need the gift of faith in this faithless age. We will need it even more as the end times grow even closer and this present darkness grows even darker. The Bible says that to each one of us a manifestation of the Spirit is given through His gifts for the common good. It is time to take them back for the common good.
