Beloved, faith is critical in the life and salvation of all believers. Our faith is in Christ's finished work on the cross for the forgiveness of our sins. It is the key to becoming saved. To no longer have faith in this world and its systems but rather in the Son of God and His sacrifice for the reconciliation of our sins to the Father. I only reaffirm this because in Charismaniacal circles faith is misappropriated quite often. We are taught to have faith in our own words instead of the word of God. We are taught to raise our experiences to the level of scripture. Faith also becomes a parlor trick for many as pagan practices infiltrate mainstream Christianity. Happenstance and coincidence are interpreted as God either speaking to us, always seemingly to confirm what we want. Voddie Baucham once preached about a couple who "felt called" to the Marshall Islands as missionaries. Translated out of Charismanic-speak, that means they were interested in it and wanted to feel as if God was the one doing the calling. Turns out that soon after the husband was transferred at his job and his new boss' last name was, wait for it, Marshall. Hallelujah! Book the flight! Baucham went on to say that most congregations would stand and applaud such a testimony but that it is all pagan in nature and he is right. It does not take faith to believe self-delusion. I say this as a backdrop to a short article linked above which highlights this process brilliantly, along with some Class-A bible mangling from Eddie Hyatt. Now, Eddie usually only writes in favor of Christo-feminism or eviscerating American history to pretend we were once under covenant with God, as do most NAR Dominionists. Today's departure from his regular heresies is a brief foray into financial matters. So buckle up and get your bible out.

'During a time of prayer early Tuesday morning, I was reminded of an encounter with the Lord from many years ago, and I knew I was supposed to share it. I knew that God wanted to encourage His people to expect great blessings to come our way--blessings we have not earned. It was a quiet Sunday morning in September of 1991 on the campus of Zion Bible Institute in Barrington, Rhode Island. Students and staff had gone off campus to attend various church services. The campus seemed especially calm and serene that morning, and I decided to take advantage of the tranquil situation by going to the chapel and spending time in prayer. As I lied on the floor, I presented to God my concern about finances. Sue and I had accepted an offer to teach and write at Zion and had just made the move from Tulsa, Oklahoma, the previous month. Being a missionary school, Zion paid us $62.50 each per week and provided housing on campus. We were expected to believe God for everything else we would need. We had been there about a month and it had become obvious that $125 per week did not cover the car payment, car insurance, food, toiletries, clothes and all the necessities of a normal life. It was a stressful situation. But as I lied on the floor lifting my concern to the Lord, the numbers "8/9 and 9/8" were strongly impressed on my mind. I reached for my Bible and noted that it was lying open at 2 Corinthians. I then turned and read 8:9, which says,

"For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor, that through His poverty you might be rich" (2 Cor. 8:9).

I then turned to 9:8 and read,

"And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, so that you, always having enough of everything, may abound to every good work" (2 Cor. 9:8).

The parallels in the two passages were immediately obvious. Both speak of God's abundant financial provision for His people and both speak of His provision flowing from His grace. It is not something earned. It is blessing flowing from His marvelous grace. I knew God was speaking to me and decided to write the date in the margin of my Bible. I was astounded as I wrote, "9-8-91."' -- Eddie Hyatt

Let's start with the notion that 8-9 and 9-8 were being "strongly impressed" upon his mind. This is the same nonsensical technique used by Bethel and the like to "teach prophecy" to their students. Bethel actually teaches it to all of their worship leaders claiming they are all prophetic. The technique is simply to try to clear your mind and whatever "pops in" is automatically assigned to have come from God. Of course there are a myriad of possible sources for why these numbers came to young Mr. Hyatt's mind. He could have been thinking about his 89 year old grandmother. He could have been thinking about 98 ways to try and prove women should preach. It could have been bad pizza from the night before. Here is one that should be considered -- it could have been the devil. You see what pops into our minds comes from our hearts and the bible assures us that nothing is as wickedly deceitful as the human heart. Now God could have just said wicked but He purposefully wanted us to know that the heart's wickedness lies with its deceitfulness. Our hearts lie to us all the time.

The second point of Charismaniacal stupidity is in assigning these numbers to where his bible happened to be opened to. People do this all the time. They randomly open the bible and pretend that it is somehow God speaking to them, regardless of where the bible is now opened to. While it is true that God always speaks to us through His word, it is inane to automatically interpret random pages to support your "prayerfully submitted request." To compound matters, Hyatt then reads to verses completely out of their individual contexts and conflates them together and claims they are parallel passages! Tripling down on this silliness, Hyatt then mangles the verses in question. 2Corinthians 8:9 is not Jesus promising anything material on this earth to believers. Jesus gave up heaven to take the poverty of human form in order to reconcile us to the spiritual richness of being reunited to our creator. 2Corinthians 9:8 is in the section that describes how a New Testament believer is to give. Verse nine is a simple reminder that we should not fear to give because God will provide for His children. Mind you, this does not mean money, as Hyatt disgustingly cheapens this to. These are not parallel passages speaking about God providing you with cash. So what really happened that day so long ago at Zion Bible Institute? Eddie Hyatt was a young Christian facing financial hardship and he went to pray so he could feel reassured. Numbers popped into his head and his poor teaching up until that point had him assuming this was God. Why God did not simply speak audibly to him is beyond me. God is not vague or confusing yet Hyatt had to turn to his open bible and see if the numbers made him feel all goosefleshy and reassured and lo and behold they did according to his own mangled interpretation of them! Now mind you, if those verses were dealing with women being silent in churches I am sure Hyatt would have dismissed it out of hand and continued searching for the Gnosis of 8-9 and 9-8.

"Present Application - This is the story--from 28 years ago--that came back clearly to me early this morning. Maybe it is for someone who thinks, "I don't deserve God's blessing." You are right! None of us deserves His blessing. That fact, however, should not stop you from expecting His blessing, since it flows from His amazing grace that Paul says He has lavished on us (Eph. 1:7-8). It is the sort of blessing of which God spoke to the people of Israel as they were going in to possess the land of Canaan. God said that they would possess: ... great and fine cities, which you did not build, and houses full of all good things which you did not fill, and hewn cisterns which you did not dig, vineyards and olive trees which you did not plant" (Deut. 6:10-11). So, let's expect unearned blessings, flowing from God's goodness and grace, coming our way today. Now, that is something for which to be thankful!" -- Eddie Hyatt

This is just breathtakingly bad beloved and what is being fed to the church each and every day by the NAR bless me crowd. The apostate church wants people focused constantly on what blessing God can give us next, when He has already given us everything in Christ! It is the dominionist focus that wants the church looking for material blessings and money instead of eternal blessings in Jesus. Hyatt continues on his bible mangling parade by again missing the point. This time in Ephesians 1, which I have made the key verses for today above (including context). What are these verses speaking about? What is God saying? Is He saying that He lavished riches and cash upon us? No. The blessing is the redemption of our sins through His blood. How did He accomplish this? Through the richness of His grace. Why did He do this? So He would make known to us the mystery of His will, according to His purpose, to unite all things under Him. What does Eddie Hyatt think it means? That we get all the goodies promised to Israel in Deuteronomy, in yet another bible twisting. The promises and covenant to Israel do not apply to the church. That is called replacement theology.

So in order to scratch some itching ears Eddie Hyatt corrupts four bible passages by bringing a moment from his past where he placed his faith in random bible verses out of context to promise himself blessings God never promised to us today. Beloved, do not fall for pagan practices that only get you focused on temporal needs. Should we pray? Of course but not in the arrogance of assumption. Christianity is about what God already did for us on the cross. Not collecting more baubles from this fallen world that is passing away.
