Dr. Michael Brown Advocating to Regain the Apostate Church's False Prophetic Voice

By Anthony Wade

Dr. Brown is at it again, thinking if false prophets just repent, then they can go back to being false prophets...

You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven. - Matthew 5:14-16 (ESV)

One of the most consistent false roles in the apostate church today is within the false prophet paradigm. Have you ever felt like it seems everyone is claiming to be a prophet now? I have seen contradictory prophecies posted on the same day by Charisma News. Before we get into the meat of this discussion let us refresh our memories about what the bible says. Prophecy is a way God speaks to His people. In the Old Testament it was the primary vehicle for this because the people did not have a "bible" or written down copies of the word of God. We of course live in an age where the final revealed word of God is readily available to us. God is omniscient and omnipresent, so it is not plausible that He "forgot" to tell us something that He now is revealing through someone like Kris Vallotton or Shawn Bolz. It is important to also remember that God does not stutter or speak in hushed tones. Thus, it was simply not possible to believe that He spoke to someone and they in turn would mishear it. If you prophesied falsely, you were stoned to death for daring to speak on behalf of God when you know full well you had not heard from Him. While the punishment may have lessened as time grew on the standard has never changed. If you are a prophet, you must be proven right by what you say coming true. I say these things because the modern version of prophecy is so mangled by the false prophets that we can forget. They believe you can be wrong 35% of the time and that makes you a solid prophet, which is patently absurd. Why would I believe you about what God said if you are wrong that often? This past election we saw the entire Industrial Prophetic Complex get wrong the fact that their idol, Mr. Trump, was going to be reelected. As we head into the mid-term elections Dr. Michael Brown is now asking whether the church can regain its prophetic voice in the above linked article. It is the wrong question, asked for selfish motives, that reveals so many flaws in how prophecy is presented today. Let us reason once more:

'"You are the salt of the earth." Most of us are familiar with these words. They were spoken by Jesus to His disciples in the Sermon on the Mount, pointing to our calling to be a moral conscience as well as a holy preservative to a society in decay. But are we as familiar with the Lord's warning that followed? Jesus continued, "but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled under people's feet." (Matthew 5:13) This is exactly what has happened to the Church of America in recent years. Because we have lost our saltiness, we have been scorned, discarded, and ridiculed, almost literally "trampled under people's feet."' - Dr. Michael Brown

Dr. Brown is a dominionist so it is no wonder that he would interpret the role of the church to be a moral conscience to a society in decay. Salt had many uses in the days of Jesus and preserving morality was not one of them. If Brown had just gone a little further into the context, as we see in the key verses today, Jesus is not teaching about morality. Why? Because the world is going to be immoral. It is walking in darkness and the things of God are utter foolishness to them. Behavior modification is not going to save them either. We do have a role however as the church. In the next analogy we see that we are to be a light in this dark world. Why? So, they can see how morally righteous we are? Nope. It is so they can see our good works! When we clothe the homeless and feed the hungry. When we do not hold wrongs against people but rather forgive them, as Jesus forgave us. Brown is right that we have lost our saltiness. We have lost our light in this world of darkness because the church has been just as dark. Instead of being oppositional light we have actively pursued becoming a relevant darkness to the world.

"We who were called to be shining lights in the darkness failed to shine. We who were called to be prophetic voices to the world failed to preach to ourselves. We who were supposed to be different proved to be just as corrupt and carnal and compromised as the rest. We who were supposed to bring heaven's values down to earth became as earthly as everyone else. We were rocked by one major scandal after another. We got caught up in partisan politics. We were known better for our acrimony than for our love, for our division rather than our unity, for our hypocrisy rather than our holiness." - Dr. Michael Brown

Most modern prophets failed because they are not prophets. They seek profits, but do not know God, let alone hear from Him. I have seen Charisma News prophets predict the winner of Super Bowls (which they were wrong on) or warn us of silly things like sneaky squid spirits. I have seen prophecy tied to book releases where they promised everyone greed beyond their dreams of avarice. It is not that they failed to show their light. It is that they have no light to show. That is what Dr. Brown always gets wrong. He actively covers for charlatans like Benny Hinn and Joseph Prince. The sneaky squid lady he had on his radio show to justify her nonsense. That is the low hanging fruit, however. The deeper rot is found in the reference to politics, which Brown tries to cast as just one of a list of issues. The truth is that politics is at the heart of the reproach held against the church today. Instead of being light and showing God's light, people like Dr. Brown consistently point to other people, unsaved, and claim they are the light based on what political party they are in. Suddenly God needs our help to vote in the "right" unbelievers into office. If you refuse? Well according to popular preacher/prophets like Mario Murillo or Greg Locke you are going to hell. Did you get that? If you do not vote for a man married and divorced three times, unfaithful to all three wives, who brags about grabbing women by their genitals then you cannot be saved! That is not being "caught up" in partisan politics Michael. That is idolizing it and Brown does nothing to rebuke what he should rebuke.

"As a result, the name of our Lord has been mocked and many have left the church. The good news is that God gives grace to the humble, and if we will get low before Him, confessing our sins, turning from the compromise and carnality in our own lives, and seeking Him earnestly, He will answer from heaven. He will have mercy. He will forgive. And He will restore. By His grace and mercy, we can regain our prophetic voice, but it will take patience. It will take perseverance. And it will take a real demonstration of our faith on a day by day, grassroots level. In other words, it will take Christians living as Christians." - Dr. Michael Brown

This is such a great example of the confusing and maddening dichotomy Brown always exhibits. On the one hand he properly diagnoses a serious problem. It is because of him and the people he endorses and supports that many have left the church and even the Lord has been mocked. Instead of addressing the seriousness of this, he goes right into how he and his band of merry false prophets can get back to business. Just consider for a moment the sheer lunacy of what he is saying here. False prophets who were too entangled with carnality and human politics have led to an exodus from the church and God being mocked but hey, they just have to "get low" and God will give them an "attaboy?" Seriously? Do not get me wrong. If these people genuinely seek God He will forgive. They can receive mercy and be saved. They will not be restored however to a position they never had to begin with. What Brown never can admit to is that they never had a prophetic voice to begin with. They had a scam. They had a scheme. They had a grift. He approaches this as if these were well intentioned people who genuinely heard from God but made a boo-boo somewhere along the way. No Dr. Brown. These were ravenous wolves lying about hearing from God and devouring the sheep along the way. I do not want to hear from them again and the world sure does not need to.

"As Jesus said in the verses that immediately followed His words quoted above, "You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven." (Matthew 5:14-16) As we let our light shine. As we do good deeds, helping those in our community in need. As we love our neighbors as ourselves. As we take a real interest in people's lives, they will take notice. They will recognize our sincerity. They will receive our help. And many will give glory to our Faither. (Those of you have been living like this for years know that this is true.) And from that stance of loving service we can regain our footing in the society, especially if we are able to avoid another wave of massive scandals. Let us be known for our integrity. And our solid marriages and families. And our kindness. And our trustworthiness. As we are, our voices will be heard more and more, not as the claptrap of religious hypocrites but as the trumpet blast of a moral conscience that cuts to the heart. In fact, I believe that the stage has been set by God Himself as millions of Americans struggle with uncertainty and fear, from the trauma and devastation of COVID to the current economic turndown. What is coming next?" - Dr. Michael Brown

Absolutely maddening. He correctly handles the verses about being light and then proceeds to turn that into darkness again. It is like he is advocating for leveraging, or using, a loving stance to regain the trust of the slaughtered sheep. Why? So, they can be slaughtered again of course! Brown just does not get it. The problem is in thinking prophecy is equal to blasting a trumpet at sinners for the sake of human designed morality! Just consider how much doubt and fear was sown by the false prophets to begin with! COVID? Most of the false prophets I saw questioned any political leader's attempts to save lives if they were not in the Republican Party. Charisma News is still running articles every day claiming that COVID was somehow false. Christians have become branded as the science deniers. The wild-eyed conspiracy theorists nutcases. How many pastors died from COVID after insisting it was not real? How many more defend their decisions to reopen their churches, in violation of law, just so they could get those tithes rolling in again?

"Millions of Americans also recognize that our society is losing its mind, with the government fighting for boys to share locker rooms with girls and compete against them in sports and with leading figures unable to define what is a woman. What in the world is going on?

This is where we step in with a message of hope and comfort and truth and eternal life. This is where we tell people there is a better way - God's way. This is where we urge people to turn away from that which is wrong and turn to the only One who can set things right. This is where we preach the gospel and live the gospel." - Dr. Michael Brown

Brown could not even get through this article without reverting back to the hopeless political shill that he always has been. Please keep in mind that this is not a commentary on the seriousness of any societal grievance Brown wishes to bring up, just that they are not related to prophecy. Being a light on a hill is not pointing to a carnal candidate and insisting loyalty to him or her because of what they say about shared locker rooms or collegiate sports. It is in the conflation of these carnal matters with eternal properties that Brown goes so wrong. Think of it this way. This world is irretrievably broken. Brown thinks that the gospel is leaning into the brokenness and telling people how their vote can change the world. The reality is the gospel saves people out from the world. The dominionist is trying to save the world while God is trying to save people. The cause of Jesus Christ is not insisting that first graders recite a prayer to a God they do not know. The gospel is not about saving this fallen world.

"Now is also the perfect time to show that we have learned our lessons from past elections and that we will not get obsessed with partisan politics to the point of our social media pages sounding like the latest TV attack ads. (In this context, I would encourage you to check out my newest book, due out shortly, The Political Seduction of the Church: How Millions Of American Christians Have Confused Politics with the Gospel - but I warn you in advance: this book does not tickle ears.) God has called us to be different in the best sense of the word, to stand out as salt and light because of His grace at work in us. To the extent that we live out our faith in the days ahead, we can regain our voice. And somehow, even defying nature, we can become salty again." - Dr. Michael Brown

So, we come to the grift. This has been one large advertisement for an upcoming book. Dr. Brown is a prolific writer, but I warn you in advance that he names no one. He wrote a fantastic book against hyper grace but refused to call Joseph Prince a false teacher. He has written against the abuses in Charismania but still went on Benny Hinn's program for a week. Any serious discussion of politics in the church needs to start with Brown's own dominionism, a subject he never confronts. Beloved, do not believe that people who are wrong 35% of the time are hearing from God. If you are seeking a word from Him, read your bible! We do not need to give exposed charlatans and hucksters a second chance. If you genuinely want to get back to being salt and light, then it starts with walking away from the carnal politics of this world. Stop chasing a revival that is not promised anywhere in scripture. Stop trying to regain a false prophetic voice that led to God being mocked and so many leaving the church in disgust.
