Take_This_Thorn_From_Me

Take_This_Thorn_From_Me

::::::::

Take This Thorn From Me

My soul lies bleeding all around me

My spirit crushed from the innocuousness of purpose

My mind wanders into self made prisons

Searching for freedom, searching for peace

Finding another shackle to lock around the ankle of my progress

Freedom is just the illusion of choice

Choice the illusion of power

Power the illusion of the dangerous

But true danger lies in surrender

Surrender your life

Surrender the you that is "me"

I look to the heavens and scream

Take this thorn from me

With each subtle movement, pain renewed

With each passing thought I drift further away from you

Further from the light

Further from the truth

The truth is all we have

Should be all we need

But life distorts the definitiveness of black and white

We avoid condemnation

Avoid the truth for another day

As our lives slip further down

Blurred into shades of grey

I beat my body, wail into the growing wind

Put no faith in what you see

I look to the heavens and say

Take this thorn from me

It digs its way deeper into my being

The blood and pain start to matter less

In the face of the world that has moved on

I must recede, I must diminish

To become more, I must become the least

The least will be most

The meek shall be strong

Destiny appears far off; within my grasp

Contentment ruins promise

Like giving a self-help book to a blind man

An empty gesture, a meaningless thought

Distraction abounds to deter your eyes from the prize

It digs further into who I was, who I am

Becoming who I will be

I fall to my knees; turn to the heavens and in the depths of my dying, I beg

Take this thorn from me...

To much who has been given, much is to be expected

When the pain of this world recedes from my face

The only word I am left with is...

Grace

Your grace abounds in my life

It wakes me daily with joy unspeakable

It lays me down at night with blessed assurance

Your grace carries me through each moment

From the light of day I walk in

To behind the wall of sleep

Your grace is what is required

For the surpassingly great revelations will come and go

And conceit is waiting prey

Pride goeth before the fall

For one and for all

The thorn, the thorn reminds me

In whom I have believed

Take this thorn from me I plead

I no longer know what to do

It's my grace my God replied

And it is sufficient for you
