Quick Snack: The Hypocritical Disconnect of Dr. Michael Brown in One Tweet

By Anthony Wade

A tweet from Dr. Brown over the weekend perfectly sums up his total disconnect...

Dr. Michael Brown has decades of service to the church and is considered a learned theologian by many. I have spoken with Dr. Brown and appeared on his radio program twice. Once was to try and convince him that he should not go on the Benny Hinn show for a week and lend his credibility to an obvious huckster. Dr. Brown pretended to not know about the falseness of Hinn, went on his program anyway, and called Hinn a good brother in the Lord. The second time was to discuss why I refer to Brown as a "gatekeeper for the NAR." In that segment he pretended to disbelieve the existence of the NAR and attacked me for daring to call Bill Johnson a false teacher. Johnson operates a school for the alleged supernatural where he claims to be able to teach people the gifts of the spirit. Dr. Brown voraciously defended Johnson and the school by claiming he had taught there. As if that changes what the bible says about the gifts only being given by the spirit. Brown is difficult to wrangle with because he is a very likable fellow and a master manipulator. He himself, does not teach falsely and he even writes many books that speak against many heresies, even within Charismania. He put out a tweet yesterday that accurately sums up the disconnect that he fails to see between his words and his actions:

"The critic: Why don't you call out abuses in the charismatic movement?

Me: Actually, I've addressed the abuses many times & written whole books on the subject.

The critic: Who has time to read everything you write? And why boast about your books?"

Now obviously Brown chose this because the critic's response is silly. The disconnect however is that while it is true that Brown has written whole books on the subject of abuses within Charismania, he has refused to assign those teachings to any false teacher. The perfect example is Brown's book on the heresy of hyper-grace. Brown is spot on in his critique of the dangers of antinomianism, which overly focuses on grace to avoid dealing with sin. There is one false teacher that embodies this teaching perfectly and that is Joseph Prince. This charlatan has preached that God is never angry with us, the flood was an act of love not wrath, the believer has no use for the Ten Commandments, repent means to allow God to carry you, the Holy Spirit never convicts us of sin, and that his followers will be the last generation before the second coming of Christ. Yet when I confronted Brown about Prince in the first radio appearance he claimed Prince was a "good brother in the Lord who just has some holes in his theology." If you cannot warn the body about Joseph Prince then your book on hyper-grace is meaningless.

Likewise, let's consider Bill Johnson. From Bethel Church, Johnson and his gang of heretics should be low hanging fruit for anyone with an ounce of discernment. Besides the aforementioned school, there is literally no false teaching he does not embrace. Prosperity, gospel, word faith, false signs and lying wonders, gold dust, gem stones, glory clouds, angel feathers, dead raining teams, grave sucking, and experiential Christianity to name a few. Johnsons was one of the false teachers who hopped in the NAR clown car and drove down to Lakeland Florida a decade ago to anoint Todd "kick em in the face" Bentley a prophet! He also oversaw Bentley's faux restoration that culminated with his divorce and remarriage to the nanny he was having an affair with. So, if you cannot call Bill Johnson false, your book on the abuses within Charismania is meaningless. Johnson should have been on the cover! Brown even gave cover to the most absurd false prophetess in our time, the Queen of Calamari, Jennifer LeClaire. Jennifer has claimed the ability to "release the angels of abundant harvest" over your life and has seen a "sneaky squid spirit" sitting on her friend's head that started to stalk her. She operates numerous fake schools to teach you to be a false prophet, a false seer, or even start your own network of false prophets. All run out of a room at the Fort Lauderdale Airport Holiday Inn.

So please Dr. Brown, spare us the notion that you defend against false teachers because you do not. You enable them. You encourage them. You are a gatekeeper for them. Your books only prove the point that you should know better. It's like if I wrote a book on the dangers of serial killers and when asked about Ted Bundy I said I didn't want to pass judgment. Paul called out false teachers like Hymenaeus and Philetus by name. He even called out Peter by name when Peter was behaving hypocritically. I wish it were not so, but this tweet only confirms that Dr. Brown is to be marked and avoided as the bible commands.

Rev. Anthony.
