Dr. Michael Brown's NAR Salad Bar Theology of Christ and Politics
By Anthony Wade
Dr. Brown is again trying to float about the clouds as if he is not a naked political hack...
::::::::
Abstain from every form of evil. - 1Thessalonians 5:22 (ESV)
With only four months before the election, the NAR will pull out all the stops to do the bidding of their political masters and convince Christians everywhere they must vote for everything Republican. This cajoling runs the gamut from being blatantly partisan to implying and inferring that their carnal political party is "God's choice." The reality is that both political parties are part of the same evil and at the very best, you could only argue that you believe your choice is somehow a lesser evil. While we are all free to make those determinations, God remains unimpressed with our opinions about what we deem to be lesser in evil somehow and more concerned that we would be supporting evil in any form whatsoever, as the key verse teaches us. God says abstain from every form of evil. Not just those that we deem as some form of greater evil. This is the core problem of NAR dominionism. It seeks to confer righteousness where it does not belong. When Jesus walked the earth, His own people were facing real oppression from the Roman Empire, yet He remained entirely apolitical. Yes, he was critical of the Pharisees and teachers of law but that was a spiritual criticism, not a political one. Yet the NAR would have you believe that as a Christian, you must vote for their candidates. Idiots like Greg Locke and Mario Murillo, who make their living on preaching politics, have gone as far as to say that if you vote Democratic you are a hell bound reprobate and unredeemable. Locke even went as far as to remove any sheep from his flock who admitted they were in fact Democratic. I want you to imagine for a moment the enormity of that delusion. That heaven will only be filled with those who pass some kind of political purity test. It is absurd on its face and removes the power of the cross and faith therein.
For every "in your face" dominionist there are also those deployed by the NAR who take a more nuanced and subtle approach. They are political operatives who disguise their true goals with a lot of Christianese but behind the subterfuge the motives are transparent. They try to disguise their intent behind NAR catch-phrases like "Christian worldview" and voting on "biblical principles." The problem of course is they so narrowly define these principles to precisely guide you towards the Republican candidate they want you to vote for. They are so carnal and compromised that they have no qualms telling you God's choice in 2012 was a Mormon. Never mind that Mormonism is a Satanic cult, Mitt Romney was a Republican and that was all that mattered. God played a game of can you top this and put forth the least moral man in history to run in 2016 and the church made sure Donald Trump was elected. Bankruptcies, three wives, multiple affairs, porn stars, and grabbing women by the genitals? No worries because he had that little "r" next to his name. At the top of the list of these covert dominionists is Dr. Michael Brown. Once revered as a biblical scholar and staunch defender of all things Israel, Brown has chosen to spend his latter years defending reprehensible false teachers and implying all things NAR dominionism. The above linked article from this week just continues to prove this. So let us reason once more together beloved.
"While political pundits do their jobs in analyzing the presidential debate, I'll do my job as a spiritual leader and encourage us to keep our priorities straight. In short, as I posted earlier this year, preach Jesus and vote for your presidential candidate of choice, based on scriptural principles. But do not preach your candidate. To do so is to defile your witness. All too often, we become better known for the candidate we support than the Lord we serve, declaring our allegiance to a party or a person far more passionately than we declare our allegiance to the Savior. And to what end? For what purpose? Better that we keep our priorities straight and our focus clear, being careful not to allow anything to taint our testimony for our Lord. And then, as responsible citizens, we get involved in the political process." - Dr. Michael Brown
This is why Dr. brown has zero credibility anymore. Just two days earlier he had posted online that Joe Biden, the current president of the United States, was "clearly not fit for office" and in "mental decline." This of course following the poor performance in the debate. What's the problem? By only focusing on Biden's performance, Brown is clearly saying he believes the guy who lied over 30 times in the very same debate is somehow fit for office. He is saying that they guy who has 34 felony convictions and tells bizarre stories in his speeches about batteries and sharks is not in mental decline. There is a word for what Brown is engaging in and it is called politics. He is demonizing the side he does not like while exalting the one he does, even in his silence. Donald Trump said in this debate that he did not have sex with a porn star and Joe Biden confused the insulin cap he negotiated to 35% with 15%. Yet Brown's conclusion is that Biden should be in an old age home and the guy who says he wants to be a dictator on day one, is fit for office. This is preaching your candidate! This is defiling your witness! Do not be deceived by the sly reference to voting based on scriptural principle. What about the principle of helping your neighbor? What about the principle of taking care of the least of these? You are not a spiritual leader Dr. Brown. You are a political hack and it is truly a shame.
"For all of us, this should mean informed voting. For some, it will also mean donating to candidates. Or raising awareness about issues. Or working to get out the vote. Or even running for office. Let everyone find their place. But let none of us get so caught up with the elections that we allow our social media pages or spheres of influence to become partisan political cesspools, filled with ugly attacks, mocking memes and nasty rhetoric. And all this side by side with our favorite Scripture of the day!" - Dr. Michael Brown
Informed voting is an NAR catch phrase that means Republican voting. As already pointed out there are some redeemable facets of both political parties and things that one could twist to fit the narrative of being more "Christian." The NAR wants you to only look at two issues and ignore everything else. Those issues are then reinforced through the pulpit, so we are conditioned to think they are all God cares about. Except God cares about people besides us too. He cares about people dying in other countries as well. He cares about the people we are conditioned to hate, or be fearful of. He cares about impoverishing poor people. He cares about the widow and the orphan. These are all points that do not point one towards the Republican Party at all but make no mistake about this. That is exactly what Dr. Brown is trying to do. His hypocrisy is also showing because the very people he supports vigorously, are the very people with the nasty, ugly, mocking lives on display. Not to mention Brown's primary vehicle for his writing is Charisma News, and there is no greater bastion of Republican NAR talking points than this. They routinely run absolute partisan hackery. This is the illusion Brown always tries to sell. That he is somehow spiritually above the carnal fray, floating in the clouds for Jesus. Out of the other side of his mouth however he calls the president unfit while ignoring the 34 times convicted adulterer, sex offender and liar solely because of the party he is in. Oh, but he is denouncing partisan political cesspools, right.
"As Jacob (James) said, "With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse human beings, who have been made in God's likeness. Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers and sisters, this should not be. Can both fresh water and salt water flow from the same spring? My brothers and sisters, can a fig tree bear olives, or a grapevine bear figs? Neither can a salt spring produce fresh water" (James 3:9-12, NIV). Surely, when our whole nation is shaking and uncertainty rules the day, we can step higher and do better and shine like lights in dark places"all while staying politically active. Put another way, whether America recognizes it or not, our nation desperately needs the church to be the church, to proclaim our faith, live out our faith and offer the hope of the gospel, the most powerful force on earth to transform hearts and lives. Let us, then, prioritize our role as followers of the Lord." - Dr. Michael Brown
Listen, we can shine light in the dark and be politically active. The problem is when we mix them. The problem is that people like Dr. Brown unequivocally supports those who preach partisan politics directly from the pulpit. Brown has it a little confused though. America needs the gospel, not the church. God has ordained the church as His vehicle for delivering the gospel but today it no longer does that. Instead, it mixes faith so deeply with carnal politics that the lost see the church for what the church cannot see itself as - corrupt, hypocritical and absolutely worldly. I do not doubt that Dr. Brown thinks he prioritizes the gospel but the reality is that he pays lip service to such, as this in article, but even within that he cannot help but spew GOP talking points and NAR coded language.
"In that light, here are some dangerous tendencies to avoid:
" We wrap the gospel in the American flag (or any national or state flag).
" We equate our country with the kingdom of God.
" We confuse patriotism with spirituality.
" We compromise our ethics to keep our party (or leader) in power.
" Our church/denomination/ministry becomes an appendage of a political party.
" We put more trust in earthly methods than in spiritual methods.
" We marry the cause of Christ to the cause of a political party (or leader) as if they were one and the same.
" We become as vulgar and rude as the candidates we follow.
" We look to the White House or any branch of government in any nation more than to God.
" We make a human being into a political savior.
" We equate loyalty to God (which should be unconditional) with loyalty to a party or political leader (which should be conditional).
" Our prayers and our prophecies become politically partisan." - Dr. Michael Brown
In some ways, I almost respect the lunatics like Greg Locke and Mario Murillo more because at least they do not pretend. They are unabashed dominionists who consign half of America to hell based on their voting record. Brown would never condone such a thing publicly but his actions and writing essentially sell the same notions. Just based on his affiliations alone. Read Charisma News on any given day and all you will see is Republican Party marching orders wrapped in the bible. Charisma has deemed that Donald Trump is Christian without any merit or proof. They have said that he is the second coming of King Cyrus with a Deborah anointing and an Elijah mantle. I am not making any of that up either. While that is all horrible at least it is in your face horrible. At least it is not disguised as declaring the candidate you hate as somehow being unfit while ignoring what makes your choice so demonstrably more unfit. This list from Dr. Brown is 100% accurate. It is just a shame that he directly supports, works for and works with those who literally do every single one of the items listed.
"Unfortunately, we tend to go to one extreme or the other. Some Jesus-followers drop out of politics entirely, thinking, "The whole system is corrupt," or "Why bother?" or "This world is not our home." Others become so obsessed with politics that they raise up political leaders as savior figures, find their primary identity in a political party and look to politics to do what only the gospel can do. The fact is that politics does matter, affecting the lives of millions of people. Politics affects laws that are passed. And our standard of living. And health care. And our national security. And our international standing. Politics affects our everyday life. Political leaders, especially our presidents, can do much harm or much good, and if we fail to vote, we deserve whatever we get. Yet, quite tragically, tens of millions of American Christians do not vote at all. This must change." - Dr. Michael Brown
Here is the problem. Dr. Brown and the NAR presents not voting for either of the two evils as not somehow acceptable compared to presenting voting somehow as a Christian imperative. It is not. Beloved, I know that might be hard to swallow but what Brown lists here are all carnal things that have nothing to do with the kingdom of God. International standing, national security, healthcare, and our standard of living are all related solely to this life. Are they important to us? Absolutely. Do they have anything to do with the cause of Christ? Absolutely not. The real problem is that the NAR pretends they are intertwined. So, Brown and the NAR present a laundry list of things that voting affects and then tells you that you have to vote for these things based upon their interpretation of biblical standards. The standards however are just a convenient salad bar. They pretend all God cares about are two key wedge issues which magically all of their candidates check off the box for. Then that is presented as voting according to "biblical values." It is not a tragedy that tens of millions of Christians do not vote. It is reassuring that not all are following the apostate church.
"But by all means, let us keep our heads and guard our hearts, not degenerating into the political madness of the hour, not becoming as carnal as some of our political leaders often become, and not becoming evangelists for our candidate rather than evangelists for our Lord. What America needs more than anything is for followers of Jesus to live as followers of Jesus. That will change our nation more than any election possibly could. So, let's vote. And let's shine." - Dr. Michael Brown
But vote for who Dr. Brown? Beloved the fact is that there are many things in this article that are true especially that list of dangerous tendencies. Much like Joel Osteen discovered today that he is the wrong messenger for things involving the poor, Dr. Brown is the wrong messenger for this pretense of Jesus first and THEN vote. Because his own words and affiliations reveal that he is not objective. Look, if you think Donald Trump is the best choice for the country, knock your socks off and vote for him. If you think he is an abject threat to everything this country was founded on, vote for Biden. Just do not delude yourself into thinking yours is the Christian choice. It is not. You will not be standing before Christ reviewing your voting record. He is never going to say, "sure I'd like to let you in but, Clinton in 96? C'mon, what were you thinking!
The Kingdom of God is not of this world. Period, full stop.
