The Blood and Blessed Calvary

By Anthony Wade

Poem for Ressurection Week 2012...

::::::::

I was hopelessly lost

On a pilgrimage to nowhere, to hell

Scorching sun and darkness all around

Wandering,

Navigating the world

With the broken compass of my own morality

Looking for hope with eyes closed

Searching for fulfillment in barren wastelands

For what I was meant to be

Finding nothing I needed

Until I looked to Blessed Calvary

Your blood so precious

Bled for me, shed for me

To fill that emptiness, to open my eyes

To my God inside of me

Your blood so precious

Beaten from Your body, covering the cross

On Blessed Calvary

Forsaken, so I no longer would be

The lashes were meant for me

You carried my shame, took my blame

While I was still Your enemy

Who dies for the unrighteous?

Who willingly lies down for an adversary?

Only the Lamb

The Lamb as white as snow

On Blessed Calvary

Forgive us Father, for we still know not what we do

No reverent awe before the creator of all

No terror of Your majesty

Leaven in the bread, leaven in the bread

Just a little here and a little there

A compromise

For the sake of high sounding nonsense

Having Godliness in form

But true power denied

Where is the talk of sin and hell

And the precious blood that covers all

Soaking the ground

At Blessed Calvary

Death no longer stings

Victory at the cross!

The tomb is empty!

My Redeemer lives!

I plead the blood

Your worthy blood

Which now covers me

All I can say is

I thank Thee

I thank Thee

For Your blood that was spilled

And for Blessed Calvary
