I do not permit a woman to teach or to exercise authority over a man; rather, she is to remain quiet. For Adam was formed first, then Eve; and Adam was not deceived, but the woman was deceived and became a transgressor. -- 1Timothy 2:12-14 (ESV)

John MacArthur broke the Internet last week by daring to tell a heretic to go home. This is not about Mac, who I have some differences with as well. This is even barely about Beth Moore anymore. This is about the ginned-up faux outrage by Christo-feminists who have seized on MacArthur's seeming rudeness and indifference to further propagate the lie that God is cool with women in authority positions of teaching and preaching over men in His church. He is not and He has told us why He is not. Let me explain briefly how we interpret the bible. The key verse is what is known as a clear and directive scripture. It contains no ambiguity. In fact, it does not need to be interpreted as much as it simply needs to be read. God even gives us His reasoning for His decision. This matter theologically is not like the once saved always saved debate that has scriptures that appear in conflict. There are zero opposing scriptures to the key verses. That means there is not one scripture that seemingly says the opposite.

Many people however do not like the key scripture because it says what women cannot do and in our "woke" generation, the gender lines are so blurred that everyone thinks they can do everything. So it becomes a badge of offense for many and they seek to scour the bible to try and dismiss the clear and directive key scriptures. I read one defense yesterday claim that the context of the Timothy verses was about marriage, therefore Paul is speaking only in relation to the marriage relationship. Except that is false. The section prior is about prayer and the section following is about church service. So before Paul launches into a discussion about qualifications for pastors and elders, he expressly forbids women from teaching and preaching with authority over men. I have also heard the tortured arguments that Paul was speaking only to the culture of the Corinthian church or that somehow he hated women. These are absurd conclusions born out of desperation to be disobedient and ultimately reject a core belief of Christianity, which is divine inspiration. Paul did not write the key verses -- God did. The link above is to the latest defense of Christo-feminism offered up by stark raving heretic Kris Vallotton. Beloved, I know there are well intended individuals on both sides of this discussion, but it should give you great pause if Kris Vallotton is your champion. This is one of the most egregious false teachers on the planet. Let us reason once more

"Many women wake up every day to a world of discrimination, simply because of their gender. But the most troubling aspect of this oppression is that the Church is often found leading it!Many believers have developed a theology that proactively uses the Bible to disqualify women from the most formidable roles of leadership, especially in the Church. I am appalled by the number of Christian leaders who are convinced that women are not as qualified, called, and/or gifted to lead as men. The argument for disempowering women is illogical, unscriptural and beyond-outdated! I'd like to propose that any stinking thinking that relegates women to a lower seat of power or authority is way past its expiration date and it's high time we get with the program that Jesus preached throughout His ministry. In light of my recent posts on Instagram and Facebook, in which I apologized on behalf of male leadership to Beth Moore and Paula White; two of the finest leaders of our time, for the recent public discrimination they faced, I wanted to take some time today to unpack some of my thoughts and responses to your questions." -- Kris Vallotton

Let us start with the notion that Beth Moore and Paula White are two of Vallotton's "finest leaders of our time." Moore is a disobedient heretic who preaches contemplative prayer. Paula White has fleeced God's flock for over five million dollars preaching her brand of false prosperity and is now a chief proponent of the NAR dominionist theology. So it is no surprise that Vallotton thinks they are great leaders but the only thing they are leading is the apostate church. Now, it is true that women wake up every day to discrimination from the world. There is a vast difference however in paying women less money for the same work and obeying the bible. Realize it is God who Vallotton is saying is discriminatory! Kris -- it is not about using the bible; it is about reading it. You should try it some time.

Then we see how Vallotton plans to deceitfully frame the debate. I do not know of any Christian leader who has made the argument that women are less qualified or gifted as men. None. Calling implies something from God so all I can say is that God does not make Himself out to be a liar so He has not called any women to a role He has forbidden. No one is making an argument for "disempowering" women. The only argument being made on this side is what the bible says. Now, Kris does not follow the bible and preaches the Bethel Experiential Christianity so it again is no wonder that he does not seem to care what the bible actually does say. Realize however if you find yourself on Kris' side in this argument you may want to distance yourself some.

"We have failed to realize that Jesus founded the Women's Liberation Movement. He taught women, spoke to them publicly, protected them from the religious community and empowered them to minister. Biblically speaking, while ten apostles huddled up in a house trying to save themselves, it was only three women (and John) who stayed at the Cross to comfort Jesus in the dark night of His soul. Although Jesus had been telling His disciples for months that He would be crucified and rise on the third day, it was only two women who visited the tomb on that fateful day. When the women found the tomb empty and encountered excited angels, they ran back to the village to tell the "world-changers" that the stone was rolled away and Jesus was gone. Yet only Peter and John even bothered to see if there was any truth to their story, while the rest of the apostles refused to believe. In spite of all of this, (in the name of the Bible) many Christians still disempower women and relegate them to the back seat of the bus." -- Kris Vallotton

Jesus founded the women's liberation movement? I must have missed that verse. Was it in 2Prevarications? In all seriousness, this statement is asinine on its face. Jesus came to liberate all of us from sin, regardless of gender. Notice how Kris mixes some truth with some deception, a calling card of the enemy. No one is arguing that women should not be taught, spoken to in public, or protected from people wanting to stone them. Jesus did not however empower women to minister. Sorry Kris, you made that one up. Yes it is true that three women and John stayed for the crucifixion but that does not change the key verses. Kris then presents the women going to the tomb as an act of faith based upon Jesus preaching He would be resurrected but that is not true either. They visited to prepare the body for burial. The women did not believe either! They asked where the angels had hidden their Lord! Stop lying to try and prop up your disobedience! Why are you mocking the disciples by placing "world changers" in quotations Kris? Did they not change the world or was that accomplished by women in your theology as well? They only ran back to tell the disciples because they were instructed to. It is so frustrating to have this conversation when one side simply refuses to be honest.

"Consider that with 40 authors writing the Bible over a period of 1,450 years in several countries and multiple cultures, in various situations and in the Old and New Covenant, only one man seems to restrict women from leadership and teaching--the great apostle Paul. If God wanted to restrict half the population from leading or teaching men (kind of a big deal, I think), then why are 39 authors virtually silent on the issue, while Paul seems specifically to restrict women? And once more, why does Paul write to nine different churches or church leaders, but only restrict women in three locations? Why does Paul empower women in some places and limit them in others? I'd like to propose that the cultural context of the letters which restrict women is the key to understanding Paul's instructions." -- Kris Vallotton

I would like to propose that you are a heretic who does not understand the bible. This is what the other side is reduced to. Reading into things what is simply not there. By downplaying Paul he misses the point that there are 23 New Testament books, excluding the Gospels since Jesus was still alive. Of those, Paul wrote 14, which is 61%. Even if you insist on including the Gospels, Paul still wrote over 50% of the New Testament. God did not have to write about this in the Old Testament because there was no issue. Now, let me explain how hermeneutics works. Cultural context is important to understand why a writer wrote what he wrote -- not to change what he wrote. So sure, there may very well have been those specific problems at the churches he included these instructions to but we believe God still wrote the letters. God still divinely inspired the letters. Not only that, but Peter even refers to Paul's letters as scripture! So when Paul is writing to Timothy and giving him instruction about orderly church service he has no idea God is the one inspiring the words for the benefit of the entire church throughout the generations. What Vallotton is proposing here is dangerous and the tactic used by liberal denominations to allow sin. God is no respecter of man, time nor culture. He transcends culture. You can dismiss nearly every single scripture by making a "that's no longer culturally relevant" argument. Christians do not engage in such evil practices.

"I spent hundreds of hours doing Biblical and historical research on women in the church for my book, Fashioned to Reign - Empowering Women to Fulfill Their Divine Destiny. I've had so many questions about Paul's instructions this week, that I want to give away the two chapters of my book that specifically unpack the Biblical reasoning behind empowering women. You can get Chapter 5 -- "Jesus: Founder of the First Women's Liberation Movement" and Chapter 6 -- "The Misunderstood Apostles" for free by clicking here. I pray these bring clarity to you!" -- Kris Vallotton

This is about selling a book! Wow. I did not see that coming. Usually Kris writes about how God wants us all rich. This is a departure even for him. He must really see a money angle in seizing on this debate. If I am in the mood for self-flagellation, maybe I will download these chapters and read them but for now, let's continue here:

"For now, let's examine one argument that is common in some Christian environments" the idea that men are to rule over women. One of the curses over women in the book of Genesis was increased pain during childbirth, but the verse that had the greatest negative impact on womanhood was God's proclamation that their husbands would rule over them. The Hebrew word for "rule" is mashal, which means "to have dominion." It is imperative for us to realize that before the curse, husbands and wives were commissioned to co-reign together (see Genesis 1:27--28). It was only after the curse that husbands were given dominion over their wives (It's important to note that men were not given authority over women, but again, husbands were given authority over wives.) Yet even under the Genesis curse, Old Testament women were empowered to be prophetesses, judges, queens, and leaders. When Jesus gave His life up on the cross, He became sin for us and thus destroyed the curse that was propagated against us (including the curse that caused husbands to rule wives) in the Garden of Eden." -- Kris Vallotton

He is so brazen with his strawmen arguments. I have never, ever heard anyone make the argument that men are supposed to rule over women. This is not about rules but rather it is about roles. No one is making an argument that women cannot prophesy either. There was only one recorded judge that was female and while Deborah deserves credit for her role in Israel's history, you do not make doctrine out of one outlier in 6000 years of history. As for queens, yes women can marry kings. As usual, Kris sticks on the end of some truth some muddying of the waters. Women can serve in leadership, just not in the church with authority over men. The key verse does not change no matter how many scriptural gymnastics Kris Vallotton likes to traffic in. Despite his entire premise being false, he cannot even properly exegete his lies. The only curse in Genesis was for the land. Man was given dominion over women because she refused to listen to her husband before the fallen state. The curse Christ broke on the cross was the curse of sin, not some fable Kris made up in the garden that never happened. Do women still have pain in childbirth? How can that be since Kris says the curse has been broken?

"The apostle Paul put it this way, "Christ redeemed us from the curse of the Law, having become a curse for us--for it is written, 'Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree'" (Galatians 3:13). When Jesus died on the cross, He broke the curse off mankind. Paul also said, "For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and of death" (Romans 8:2). But 2000 years later, much of the Church has only applied God's redemption to one gender and relegated women to the ball and chain of the Garden tragedy. The fact is that in the last hundred years, many countries of the world have begun to champion women, giving them places of leadership in politics, in business, in education, and in almost every realm of society, while much of the Body of Christ won't even allow them to be elders in a church of fifty people. It's appalling and we need to wake up! In light of these things, my question is, "What makes us think that men were set free from the curse of the Law at the cross, but that women should still be under the curse that allows husbands to dominate them in the name of God?" In fact, Christian women who have been redeemed and transformed by their Savior ought to be among the most powerful people on the planet." -- Kris Vallotton

Wow, breathtakingly bad. The curse that was broken was sin over our lives. God's redemption is equal to all and the ground is even at the foot of the cross. Kris thinks however that women's liberation was promised in the atonement. Yes Kris, much of the world has elevated women in nearly every realm of society. Has that effect been good or bad for the family and church? Now considering Kris is from Bethel it is no wonder he thinks mimicking the world is a good idea. As for the question posed, there is a vast difference between God ordained roles and being freed from the curse of the law.

"After many years of research, I am convinced that there are four basic reasons why men and women are not empowered equally in the Church.

1. The devil hates women even more than he hates men because the curse that God pronounced over the SERPENT was that women would be hostile with the devil. Therefore, the spearhead of demonic warfare is focused on women." -- Kris Vallotton

Says no biblical scripture anywhere. This is the world that Kris Vallotton has created. Where the devil is actually more hostile towards women because he secretly hates women because Eve fell for his ploy in the Garden? Yeah, that makes no sense.

"2. Many men are insecure; reducing women helps them feel more powerful." -- Kris Vallotton

Pop psychology of the world. Men in the church know that women can contribute mightily for the kingdom of God and can stay obedient to scripture at the same time.

"3. Many Christians have misunderstood the Bible with reference to women. Therefore, they don't want to violate their understanding of the Scriptures to empower women or be empowered as a woman. (Remember, you can get Chapter 5 and Chapter 6 of my book, Fashioned to Reign, here. In these two chapters, I aim to clarify the Biblical standard for empowering women.)" -- Kris Vallotton

Putting aside the second shill for his new book, the key verses are not too difficult to misunderstand unless you do not like them on their face and start mangling the rest of scripture to find cultural arguments to excuse your disobedience.

"4. As a people group, women tend to be less competitive than men, they are not "typically" fighters, they are prone to be more humble and gentle. Maybe this is because they gave birth to everyone on the planet. Men often mistake these attributes for weakness and believe women are not as qualified to lead. This results in women being promoted less frequently than men, or men purposely oppressing women." -- Kris Vallotton

No Kris. Most men in the church realize these attributes are what make men and women different, not unequal. If you feel the bible is oppressing women, take it up with God. This is not about controlling women or fearing their power. This is about wanting the best for our sisters in Christ -- to not disobey God. Vallotton's position does not surprise me since he has theology so wrong to begin with.

"The moral of the story is this: we need women to rise up as matriarchs alongside our patriarchs in every realm of society so that God's full intention for the planet can be fulfilled. To all the women out there reading this: I want to apologize to you on behalf of anyone who has oppressed you, made you feel less-than or taken away your voice. The Body of Christ needs you to rise up and be who God created you to be, in all of your beauty, strength, wisdom and power! You are incredibly valuable in the body of Christ, and if we're missing you we are missing half of God's attributes and nature!" -- Kris Vallotton

So unless we disobey what God has said He cannot fulfill His full intention for the planet? Even if you somehow agree with Kris overall, this point paints a helpless God who relies upon His creation instead of us relying on our Creator. To all my sisters in Christ I want to apologize that so many voices continue to want to lead you astray and into willful disobedience to the word of God. Having different roles does not minimize your voice or lessen your contribution. Reading what God said is not "oppression." Having you serve in every area except one, does not mean you are missing in the body of Christ. Do not be wooed by hucksters and frauds like Kris Vallotton who are selling a book at the cost of your soul.

To all the men out there reading this: It is our responsibility to take the humble heart posture of respect and empowerment towards the women in our lives. I want to encourage you to cut out any insecurity that may be leading you to hold them down or silence their voices. Let's be their biggest cheerleaders, their loudest supporters, and their most empowering partners in ministry!" -- Kris Vallotton

Humility starts with obeying the word of God. So to all the men reading this, obey the word of God and help our sisters realize their significance within the body apart from rebellion. I understand this is a contentious issue and has become more so lately. When you see someone so false as Kris Vallotton line up on your side -- it should give you some serious pause to reevaluate where you are. This man is a theological train wreck and this article only further cements that legacy. I beg you all to stop mangling the word of God for your personal opinions. Junias was not an apostle. Phoebe was not a deacon. The Samaritan woman was not the first evangelist. The women at the tomb were not the first carriers of the Gospel. The key verses say what the key verses say. You can comb through 6000 years of recorded history to try and find your loophole but you cannot erase what God has said. Disobey if you must but stop pretending God is ok with it.
