Creflo Dollar Hides Behind His Board to Purchase 70 Million Dollar Plane

"See, I am against you, you arrogant one," declares the Lord, the Lord Almighty, "for your day has come, the time for you to be punished. The arrogant one will stumble and fall and no one will help her up; I will kindle a fire in her towns that will consume all who are around her." - Jeremiah 50: 31-32 (NIV)

Creflo Dollar has been a false teacher for decades now. His adherence to tithing and the prosperity heresy once led him to preach from the pulpit that he wished he could pass out machine guns to the tithers so they could line up the non-tithers and shoot them all. The owner of multiple million dollar homes, Mr. Dollar has never been shy about showing off what he has. This despite the fact that 25% of people who live in Atlanta, where he preaches, do so below the poverty line. It is for reasons such as this that Dollar turned some heads and some stomachs when it was recently revealed that he had solicited his "ministry partners" to chip in so he could purchase a 70 million dollar plane. At first he tried to downplay it and claim that he needed the plane because he brings so much food with him for the starving around the world. Soon that was debunked as it was revealed the plane he sought could not carry the food he claimed. In fact, it was revealed that he sought the most expensive and luxurious private plane on the market. This while his home town of Atlanta boasts a shameful 38% child poverty level.

After the uproar, Dollar dropped the pledge drive but never gave up on his dream. Soon after, he abused his pulpit to preach about how Jesus was actually rich, mangling nearly every text he came across to do so. The sole purpose of this was to justify his dream of flying around the world in the richest plane known to man. For those who thought that would be the end of it - you just do not know Creflo Dollar. Now hiding behind the board of his ministry corporation, Dollar is letting out all of his frustration in what has to be one of the most arrogant press releases for Jesus I have ever seen. The board of World Changers Church International, stated this week that they will still pursue purchasing the plane of Mr. Dollar's dreams. The plane that billionaires are lining up to purchase. The board stated:

"It is our belief that this ministry is called to serve people globally -- to literally change the world according to the Great Commission -- and our infrastructure and operational plan reflect the worldwide nature of that assignment. Our pastors share the gospel of Jesus more than 300 times per year -- in churches, arenas, venues, convention centers, stadiums and other facilities across the entire planet -- and are committed to aggressive travel schedules that cannot be fulfilled via any means other than private aircraft,"

Perhaps the board should stick to propping up Dollar's dreams and stay away from pretending it understands the Bible. The Great Commission does not command that one person had to go into all the world but that we all share the responsibility equally. Putting that aside however, let us reason about the rest of this carefully parsed statement. The inference being made is that only Dollar can be the man to bring the Gospel around the world. Except here is the list of countries he visited last year according to the original promo video asking for the financial help:

Brazil, Ireland, Germany, North America, Canada, Mexico, Venezuela, Australia, New Zealand, United States, Europe, France, Italy, Nigeria, South Africa, Uganda, India, New Guinea.

Hardly the hotbeds of anti-Christian sentiment. Are you telling me that there are not enough preachers in Canada, France, Italy, Ireland, Brazil, Australia and New Zealand? Seriously? Even if you buy the specious argument that only a private plane will do, how does that justify the Rolls Royce of private planes? Considering the poverty rate for those who did not finish high school in Atlanta is almost 52%, couldn't he have considered a cheaper alternative and actually help the people he claims to be called to shepherd? The statement continued:

"A long-range, high-speed, intercontinental jet aircraft is a tool that is necessary in order to fulfill the mission of the ministry. In light of an unfortunate accident that recently resulted in the ministry's aircraft being declared a total loss, it is our intention to purchase another airplane at a time, place and price of our choosing,"

Yes, the old plane skidded off the runway in another preacherless country - England. What they omit is that Pastor Dollar was not on the plane. His wife and kids were using it at the time and not for ministry related activities. I guess when you're the boss you can do what you wish. When you are the board however, you are supposed to hold the boss accountable. I guess not in the church:

"We plan to acquire a Gulfstream G650 because it is the best, and it is a reflection of the level of excellence at which this organization chooses to operate. We, the World Changers family, so value the lives, the safety and the well-being of our pastors and leaders that we wish to provide to them the best air travel experience possible,"

Reflection of excellence? You just cannot make this stuff up. In the mind of Creflo Dollar, wasting 70 million dollars on the most luxurious private plane on the market while children in your own backyard are starving is a sign of excellence. God help us. Notice also the not so subtle hint that disagreement with such a gaudy waste of money means that one simply does not value the lives of the pastors of World Changers. Remember however that the Gulfstream G650 is not marketed as the safest private jet. It is marketed as the most opulent. Also remember that when this statement constantly refers to multiple pastors, we are talking about Dollar and his family primarily. Whether they be spreading the Gospel in such notorious anti-Christian countries as Germany or coming back from a busy day of shopping in London.

"Our community is centered on biblical principles directly from the Word of God. There is no area of the organization that does not base its foundational principles and operational guidelines on what the Bible has to say to us about God's love and His grace. "We understand that others may interpret biblical truths differently -- the freedom to worship as one chooses is a fundamental hallmark of a free society -- but wish to assert our God-given right to practice what we believe. This is our faith, the very basis for what we believe, and it is not necessary that we justify it,"

How unbelievably arrogant. First of all there is absolutely nothing biblical about this purchase. Micah 6:8 teaches us that the Lord requires of us only three things. To do justly, love mercy and walk humbly before our God. This episode violates all three. There is nothing just about squandering 70 million dollars to appear "excellent" while the needs of real people fall by the wayside. There is also nothing merciful about that. As for walking humbly before your God? How do you do you pretend to do that while in the same breath declaring that you "do not have to justify it."

Mark my words Creflo Dollar and this compromised board. You will have to justify it one day. You have no such God given right to practice what you believe if it does not line up with God's Word, period. This is not about different interpretations and it is insulting to pretend it is. This is about one man arrogantly thumbing his nose at the rest of the church, the world and more importantly, the people he thinks he is supposed to shepherd. Mark the Word of the Lord from the key verses well. I am against you, you arrogant one declares the Lord God Almighty! Your day will come. You will be punished. The lives that lie shattered all around you while you fly from one corner of the world to the other preaching falsely will be held to your account! The arrogant one will stumble. God will kindle a fire that will consume. From 2000-2010, while Creflo Dollar made millions of dollars from fleecing the sheep of the Lord, the poverty rates in the Atlanta suburbs grew by 122%. Twenty percent of people in Georgia today do not know where their next meal is coming from. It is bad enough that Creflo Dollar enslaves them to the heresy known as the prosperity gospel but to do so and then hop on your seventy million dollar private plane while saying you do not have to justify it is just rubbing salt in the open wound. Your arrogance will be answered. God is always just.
