"If I, as a woman, am made in the image of God, then God must not only be a "father," but a "mother" as well." -- Jory Micah
Poor hermeneutics at best. This is what happens when you have reached a conclusion and your scour the Bible to find proof that you are right. Proof-texting is what most false teachers use to create their sermons that prop up their doctrines. Let us examine the actual Scriptures to see what they really say.
Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth."So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. -- Genesis 1: 26-27 (ESV)
The man gave names to all livestock and to the birds of the heavens and to every beast of the field. But for Adam there was not found a helper fit for him. So the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and while he slept took one of his ribs and closed up its place with flesh. And the rib that the Lord God had taken from the man he made into a woman and brought her to the man. Then the man said, "This at last is bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man."-- Genesis 2: 20-23 (ESV)
The Genesis 1 overview is actually clear on its own. God does not say let us make man and women after our own likeness, or image. No beloved. He says let us make man. The portion that says male and female he created them is then explained in the Genesis 2 verses. What do these verses teach us? That even after creating so many different species, there was no suitable helper for Adam. What does this teach us? That Adam was clearly created first and there was some short passage of time (this all occurred on the sixth day) before God decided to cause him to sleep, take his rib and form woman. Now, since Adam was made in the image of God and Eve was made from Adam, there is no argument that Eve is also made in the image of God. But Eve still came after, and from Adam. Jory Micah takes the illogical leap that somehow this must change who God fundamentally is and that is simply unsupported in these texts.
"Religion sucks the life & joy out of us; but, God is NOT religion. Religion is a manmade false god; he's very cruel, overly demanding, & judges harshly." -- Jory Micah
Bzzt. Thanks for playing Jory but now you have completely left Scripture. I mean I understand this sounds so pious just like when that "spoken word" came out a few years back denigrating religion. Do you know who else uses this tactic? The same false signs and lying wonders churches already discussed and the NAR! It is all about "relationship" and religion is relegated to anathema. Except there's one little problem with that:
If anyone thinks he is religious and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his heart, this person's religion is worthless.Religion that is pure and undefiled before God the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world. -- James 1: 26-27 (ESV)
