Plank Number Five -- Do Not Defend Evil. One of the very real and perhaps unintended consequences of trying to insert faith into politics is the conferring of righteousness to the unrighteous. By pretending that we alone have determined "God's choice" we actually end up making the argument that the lesser evil is somehow not evil. Spurgeon once said that when presented with the choice of two evils he chooses neither. We would be wise to do the same. We should pray and seek the guidance of the Holy Spirit when it comes to our vote and then cast that vote accordingly. We should not however then pretend that we have made a righteous choice and others have not. The lesser of two evils remains evil and defending it is still defending evil. I have no issue with the arguments about the evilness in the candidacy of any candidate. But to use the Bible to try and defend a candidate is to abuse God and destroy your witness. Just as Joe Biden is not King David, Donald Trump is not King Cyrus. Can God use Him? Sure; just as He would use Clinton. God uses everything for His plans and His will. Barack Obama was not a righteous choice and neither was George W. Bush.
Beloved in conclusion let me state as always these writings are God speaking to me first. I do not take any lofty position above you. I too fall prey to the sheer carnality of human politics. I too forget to consider my witness at times. I try to not defend evil but rather stand up for the truth. That means of someone is lying about either candidate; I want to be found on the side of the truth. There is a law called the Johnson Amendment that prohibits churches from endorsing or preaching for one candidate or another in exchange for enjoying a tax-exempt status from the government. Most NAR purpose driven Christian leaders have always hated this law and wanted it repealed. Donald Trump promised to not enforce it and the apostate church went giddy. We should cringe however. I do not want my pastor preaching about Joe or Donald when he is supposed to be preaching about Jesus Christ. I have said it before and I will say it again. We are on the Titanic beloved. The ship is going down. Jesus is coming back soon. We have between now and then to redeem the time with those on the outside of salvation looking in. There is no presidential candidate that will change that or stay the coming wrath. So instead of arguing over who would be best to captain the sinking vessel into its icy grave, we would be using our time far more wisely by pointing them to the lifeboat while there is still time. Trump and Biden are not the lifeboat. Jesus Christ is. I have to remind myself of this fact every day. It is the Gospel stupid. Do not allow anyone to bully you or shame you because they have sold out their eternal savior for a political or carnal figure who saves no one.
