In conclusion let us consider the woman caught in the act of adultery:
but Jesus went to the Mount of Olives.Early in the morning he came again to the temple. All the people came to him, and he sat down and taught them. The scribes and the Pharisees brought a woman who had been caught in adultery, and placing her in the midst they said to him, "Teacher, this woman has been caught in the act of adultery. Now in the Law Moses commanded us to stone such women. So what do you say?" This they said to test him, that they might have some charge to bring against him. Jesus bent down and wrote with his finger on the ground. And as they continued to ask him, he stood up and said to them, "Let him who is without sin among you be the first to throw a stone at her." And once more he bent down and wrote on the ground. But when they heard it, they went away one by one, beginning with the older ones, and Jesus was left alone with the woman standing before him. Jesus stood up and said to her, "Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?" She said, "No one, Lord." And Jesus said, "Neither do I condemn you; go, and from now on sin no more." - John 8: 1-11 (ESV)
The church needs to get out of the habit of being the Pharisees in this story. They were only representing the law. She broke it and they wanted to carry out the punishment of death by stoning. Jesus represents the Gospel. The hope of the world from the law which will only bring us death as our wages. What Larry Tomczak and James Dobson forget in their zeal to protect their slice of Babylon is that we are all sinners in need of the grace of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Notice, Jesus does not excuse her sin. He tells her to go and sin no more - or repent. But He also says, neither do I condemn you - the Gospel. Her accusers wanted to throw the book at her - namely the Law of Moses, or the Bible. Jesus reminds them all of their true position and it is with her as a sinner. Only He provides the way out for us all. Only He is what we needed to hear to come out from the world. Only He is what the world now needs to hear. Go and sin no more; the law. Neither do I condemn you; the Gospel. Keep your lists and idol worship of this country. Preach the Good News. Preach the Gospel.
